As Christians we are all claimed by God as his children. As such, we must learn to find our own beauty through the eyes of God. We need to understand our worth based on what God says about us, because He has created us with beauty and with care.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV)

There are often standards of beauty promoted by the world that conflict with what the Bible says about us as daughters of Christ. The world constantly tears us down and gives us unrealistic standards. When in reality, our beauty comes internally from God.

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” 1 Peter 3:3–4 (NIV)

Outward adornment, in today’s society, is a great source of beauty standards in the media. This is especially true for young women and teenagers. Many young women face judgment when they do not live up to the standards of beauty set for them by the media. This can often shape how we view ourselves and how we develop confidence.

When we rely on other people for our validation, we often feel inferior and not worthy of a certain standard. This is important especially as Christians because we should not live for the world’s standards but, for God. We should remember that in order to truly feel worth and value we need to look to God from which our truth and beauty come from.
